Cloud Sync & Backup

Cloud Sync & Backup

What You'll Learn

  • How measureQuick syncs project data between your device and the cloud
  • What data gets synced: projects, tests, photos, reports, and benchmarks
  • How to verify sync status and confirm your data is backed up
  • What happens when you work offline and how data syncs on reconnection
  • How managers access cloud data across the team
  • How to retrieve projects on a different device

What You'll Need

  • Account: A measureQuick account with an active Premier Services subscription
  • App version: measureQuick v3.5 or later
  • Connectivity: WiFi or cellular data for sync (not required for field work)
  • Time: 5 minutes to understand the sync workflow

How Cloud Sync Works

measureQuick stores project data locally on your device while you work. When you finish a project and tap Exit and Sync, the app uploads your project data, test measurements, photos, and reports to the measureQuick cloud. This happens automatically over WiFi or cellular.

The cloud serves two purposes: backup (your data is safe if you lose or replace your device) and access (managers and other team members can view synced projects from their own devices or the web).

Basic accounts can save benchmarks to the cloud at no cost. Premier subscribers get full cloud sync for all projects, photos, and reports.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Complete Your Project and Save Data

After you finish taking measurements, tap Save Data at the bottom of the test screen. This creates a local snapshot of your readings. You can save a test-in, make adjustments, and save a test-out within the same project.

Saving data does not sync to the cloud yet. It stores the snapshot on your device. You can continue working, take photos, generate reports, or add notes before syncing.

Tip: Save data frequently during long jobs. Each save captures a point-in-time snapshot of your measurements. If the app closes unexpectedly, your last saved data is preserved locally.

Step 2: Exit and Sync

When you are finished with the project, tap Exit, then tap Exit and Sync. This is the step that uploads your data to the cloud.

The app will upload:

  • All project metadata (customer info, job site, equipment profile)
  • Test-in and test-out measurements
  • Photos attached to the project
  • Generated PDF reports
  • Equipment benchmarks
  • Notes and annotations

As Jim Bergmann explains: "Hit exit and then hit exit and sync - it's going to sync that data with our cloud. If we go back to the results tab, you'll see that project has been synced. There's a green checkmark telling us it's been synced with our cloud, and now you know that project is safe and you can delete it off your local device."

Step 3: Verify Sync Status

After syncing, navigate to the Results tab. Each project shows a sync status indicator:

  • Green checkmark - Synced to the cloud. Data is backed up and accessible from other devices.
  • No checkmark / gray icon - Not yet synced. Data exists only on this device.

[Visual Reference] The Results tab lists your projects with a sync status indicator next to each one. A green checkmark means the project is synced to the cloud and backed up. A gray icon or no checkmark means it exists only on this device.

Tip: Make it a habit to check for the green checkmark before leaving the job site. If you are in an area with poor connectivity, the sync may not complete immediately. Move to a location with a stronger signal and try again.

Step 4: Work Offline

measureQuick does not require an internet connection to take measurements or run diagnostics. All calculations, target zones, and diagnostic flags run locally on the device.

When you are working in a basement, attic, or rural area without connectivity:

  • Bluetooth tool connections work normally (device-to-device, no internet needed)
  • Measurements, saves, and report generation all function offline
  • Photos are stored locally
  • Data queues for upload when connectivity returns

Once your device reconnects to WiFi or cellular, tap Exit and Sync on any unsynced projects. The app uploads all queued data.

Tip: If you finish multiple projects offline, each one syncs independently when you exit and sync. You do not need to sync them in any particular order.

Step 5: Access Cloud Data from Another Device

To pull up a previous project on a different device (or after reinstalling the app), start a new project and select Start from Cloud instead of starting from scratch.

[Visual Reference] When starting a new project, a "Start from Cloud" option appears alongside the standard new project options. Selecting it retrieves the equipment profile, benchmarks, and previous test data from the cloud for return visits.

This retrieves the equipment profile, benchmarks, and previous test data from the cloud. As Jim Bergmann demonstrates: "I'm going to start this from the cloud - just start from the cloud to make it easier to pull this up. It'll pre-populate the project, the job site, the equipment profile, things we have from last time including your benchmark."

This is particularly useful for return visits. Any technician from your company can pull the cloud record for a job site, see the baseline benchmark, and compare current measurements against it.

Step 6: Manager Access to Cloud Data

Managers with Premier subscriptions can view all synced projects for their company. This includes:

  • Project details and test results from every technician
  • PDF reports generated in the field
  • Photo documentation
  • Equipment profiles and benchmarks
  • Test-in and test-out comparisons

Managers access this data through the measureQuick app or the web dashboard. Combined with the TestTracker live streaming feature, this gives managers both real-time and historical visibility into field operations.

Tips & Common Issues

My project does not show a green checkmark

Check your internet connection. Move to a location with WiFi or cellular signal and open the project, then tap Exit and Sync again. If the issue persists, force-close and reopen the app, then retry the sync.

Can I delete local projects after syncing?

Yes. Once the green checkmark confirms the sync, the project data lives in the cloud. You can safely delete the local copy to free up device storage. To access it again, use Start from Cloud.

How long is cloud data retained?

Premier subscribers have permanent cloud storage. Your project data and photos are saved for the lifetime of the equipment. This means any technician returning to a job site years later can pull up the original benchmark and compare.

What if two technicians work the same job site?

Each technician creates their own project. Cloud sync stores both projects. Managers can see all projects for a given address or customer. Starting from the cloud on a return visit pulls the most recent equipment profile.

Does cloud sync use a lot of mobile data?

Test measurement data is small (a few kilobytes per project). Photos are the largest component. If you are on a limited data plan, sync over WiFi when possible. The app does not auto-sync in the background; it only uploads when you explicitly tap Exit and Sync.

Best practices for cloud sync

  • Always tap Exit and Sync before leaving the job site
  • Verify the green checkmark on every project
  • Use Start from Cloud on return visits to pull benchmarks and equipment profiles
  • Managers should review synced projects regularly as part of quality assurance
