Settings Sync Across Devices

What You'll Learn

  • What settings sync across devices via the measureQuick cloud
  • What does not sync (and why)
  • How sync works when you log in on a new device
  • How to use the same account on a phone and a tablet
  • The difference between company-wide settings and personal settings

  • How to trigger a manual sync

What You'll Need

  • Account: A measureQuick account with an active Premier Services subscription
  • App version: measureQuick v3.5 or later on all devices
  • Devices: Two or more devices signed in to the same measureQuick account
  • Connectivity: WiFi or cellular data on each device
  • Time: 5 minutes to understand the sync behavior

What Syncs

When you sign in to measureQuick on a new device, the app pulls your settings from the cloud. The following settings sync automatically:

  • Display preferences - Theme (light/dark), layout options, and screen configurations
  • Units of measure - Temperature (F/C), pressure units, airflow units, and other measurement display formats configured in Settings > Units (see B4)
  • Toolbox configuration - Your saved list of connected smart tools and their display order
  • Report templates - Company logo, report theme, range indicator toggles, and other report formatting choices
  • Company branding - Logo image, company name, and contact details used on reports and exports
  • Benchmarks - Saved equipment benchmarks stored in the cloud (available to all company members)

These settings travel with your account. Log in on a replacement phone, a borrowed tablet, or a second device, and your preferences are already in place.

What Does Not Sync

Some data is device-specific and does not transfer through the cloud:

  • Bluetooth pairings - Probe and tool pairings are stored in the device's Bluetooth stack, not in measureQuick. You must pair each tool on each device individually. See Bluetooth Pairing for instructions.
  • Cached data - Locally cached project data, photos awaiting upload, and temporary files remain on the device that created them until synced.
  • Notification preferences - OS-level notification settings (iOS/Android) are managed per device.
  • App permissions - Camera, location, and Bluetooth permissions are granted per device through the operating system.

This separation is intentional. Bluetooth pairings depend on the physical radio in each device and cannot be transferred. Cached data exists specifically because it has not yet been synced to the cloud.

How Sync Works

Automatic on Login

When you sign in to measureQuick on a device, the app downloads your current settings from the cloud. This happens once during login. You do not need to configure anything manually.

Background Sync

After the initial login, settings sync periodically in the background while the app is open and connected to the internet. When you change a setting on one device, the change uploads to the cloud. The next time your other device syncs, it picks up the updated setting.

Background sync does not happen instantly. Allow a few minutes for changes to propagate between devices. If you need the change immediately on another device, use the manual sync option.

Manual Sync

To force a settings sync, go to Settings and pull down to refresh (or tap the sync/refresh button, depending on your app version). This triggers an immediate upload of your current settings and a download of any changes from the cloud.

Using Phone and Tablet with the Same Account

Many technicians carry a phone for quick readings and a tablet for detailed project work. Both devices can be signed in to the same measureQuick account simultaneously.

How this works in practice:

  1. Sign in on both devices with the same credentials.
  2. Settings sync to both devices automatically.
  3. Bluetooth tools pair independently on each device (you will need to pair your probes on the tablet separately from your phone).
  4. Projects created on either device sync to the cloud when you tap Exit and Sync.
  5. Either device can pull cloud projects using Start from Cloud.

You do not need to sign out of one device before using the other. Both can be active at the same time.

Company-Wide Settings vs Personal Settings

measureQuick distinguishes between two levels of settings:

  • Company-wide settings (see B11) - Set by the account owner or manager. These include company branding, default report options, and team-level configurations. They apply to every user on the company account.
  • Personal settings - Set by each individual user. These include display preferences, unit choices, and toolbox layout. They sync across that user's devices but do not affect other team members.

If a company-wide setting and a personal setting overlap (for example, report branding), the company-wide setting takes precedence. Personal settings control everything that is specific to how you interact with the app.

Resolving Setting Conflicts

A conflict occurs when you change the same setting on two devices before either one syncs. For example, you set temperature units to Fahrenheit on your phone and Celsius on your tablet while both are offline.

When both devices reconnect:

  • The most recent change wins. measureQuick uses a last-write-wins rule based on timestamps.
  • You will not see a conflict prompt or merge dialog. The newer setting overwrites the older one on both devices after the next sync cycle.

To avoid unexpected changes:

  • Make setting adjustments on one device and let it sync before changing settings on the other.
  • If you notice a setting reverted, check whether another device or a company-wide policy pushed a different value.

Tips & Common Issues

My settings did not carry over to my new device

Confirm you are signed in with the same account on the new device. After signing in, wait for the initial sync to complete. If settings still do not appear, go to Settings and trigger a manual sync. Check your internet connection if the sync fails.

I changed a setting but it reverted

Another device (or a company-wide setting update from your manager) may have overwritten your change during sync. Check the setting on all your devices and make the change on the most recently synced device so it takes priority.

Bluetooth tools do not appear on my second device

Bluetooth pairings are device-specific. You must pair each probe and tool on each device separately. The toolbox configuration (which tools are in your list) syncs, but the physical Bluetooth connection does not.

How do I reset my settings to company defaults?

Contact your account manager or company admin. They can push updated company-wide settings that override personal preferences where applicable. For personal-only settings (like units of measure), you will need to change them manually.
