Quick Start: Your First Test in 10 Minutes

Quick Start: Your First Test in 10 Minutes

What You Need

  • measureQuick installed on your phone (installation guide)
  • A measureQuick account (account setup)
  • Optional: Bluetooth smart tools (Fieldpiece, Testo, NAVAC, etc.). You can also run your first test using Demo Mode or manual entry.

Step 1: Open the App and Start a New Project

Tap New Project on the home screen. A project is a container for one job at one location.

Enter a project name (e.g., "123 Main St" or the customer name). You can skip optional fields for now.

Step 2: Choose Your System Type

Select the system you are working on:

  • Central A/C - split system air conditioner
  • Heat Pump - cooling or heating mode
  • Gas Furnace - combustion heating
  • Package Unit - self-contained rooftop or ground-mounted system

For your first test, choose the system type at the job site. If you are practicing without a live system, tap Demo Mode from the home screen instead (simulated data, no probes needed).

Step 3: Connect Your Probes (or Enter Manually)

With Bluetooth probes: Power on your smart tools. measureQuick scans automatically and displays discovered probes. Tap a probe to connect it. The app assigns measurement channels based on the probe type.

Without probes: Tap any measurement field and enter the value manually from your gauge or thermometer. Manual entry works for every field in the app.

Minimum for useful results: Suction line temperature, liquid line temperature, outdoor ambient temperature, and return/supply air temperatures. With a manifold connected, the app reads pressures and calculates subcooling and superheat automatically.

Need help connecting probes? See How to Pair Bluetooth Tools and The Toolbox for setup instructions.

Step 4: Take Measurements

With probes connected, live readings appear on screen. Let the system run until readings stabilize (the app will indicate when conditions are steady).

Key screens to check:

  • Gauge View - live pressure and temperature gauges
  • Grid View - all measurements in a table layout
  • System View (Premier Services) - interactive diagram showing refrigerant cycle with live data

Step 5: Review Results

After measurements stabilize, check:

  • Pass/Fail indicators - the app evaluates refrigerant charge, airflow, capacity, and other subsystems
  • Vitals Score - a 0-100 system health rating based on all connected measurements (requires 9+ probe channels for cooling/heating, 7+ for gas furnace)

Green = pass. Red = fail. Tap any indicator for details on what the app measured and why it passed or failed.

Step 6: Save and Generate a Report

  1. Tap Save to store the project.
  2. Tap Generate Reports to create a PDF.
  3. Choose your report format and tap Generate.
  4. Share the report via email, text, or your CRM integration.

Free accounts get a basic PDF. Premier Services subscribers get company-branded reports with Vitals scores and detailed diagnostics.

What to Try Next

  • Run a guided workflow - the app walks you through a complete diagnostic sequence step by step. See Workflow Comparison and Usage Guide for details on Classic vs Guided workflows.
  • Try a Quick Test - standalone tests like Static Pressure Screening that do not require a full workflow.
  • Set up your system profile - photograph equipment nameplates and let the AI System Profiler identify make, model, and specs. See AI System Profiler.
  • Connect to your CRM - pull dispatched jobs from ServiceTitan or Housecall Pro.

Common First-Test Questions

Do I need Bluetooth probes to use measureQuick?

No. You can enter all measurements manually. Bluetooth probes automate data capture and reduce errors, but they are not required.

What is Demo Mode?

Demo Mode loads simulated system data so you can explore the app without live equipment or probes. Find it on the home screen.

How many probes do I need?

For a basic cooling diagnostic: 4-5 temperature probes and a manifold (suction, liquid, ambient, return air, supply air, plus pressures). For a complete diagnostic with Vitals scoring, 9 or more probe channels are recommended. See Proper Wireless Probe Placement for positioning diagrams.
