Exporting Data

Exporting Data

What You'll Learn

  • How to export test and project data from the measureQuick cloud dashboard
  • What fields and columns are included in CSV exports
  • How to filter data before exporting to get exactly the records you need
  • How to work with exported data in Excel or Google Sheets
  • Bulk export limitations and how to work within them
  • When to export data vs use the in-app dashboard for analysis

What You'll Need

  • Device: Computer with a modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
  • Account: measureQuick Premier subscription with Company Administrator or Manager role
  • Access: Login credentials for cloud.measurequick.com
  • Software: Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or another spreadsheet application for working with CSV files
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with the cloud dashboard (K1) and report generation (J1)
  • Time: 5 minutes to read, 2-5 minutes per export

Why Export Data

The measureQuick cloud dashboard provides built-in analytics and filtering. For most day-to-day management tasks, the dashboard is sufficient. But there are situations where exporting raw data gives you capabilities the dashboard does not:

  • Custom analysis. Build pivot tables, calculate metrics the dashboard does not show, or combine mQ data with other business data (revenue, scheduling, inventory).
  • Compliance reporting. Some utility programs, code compliance bodies, or franchise organizations require data submissions in specific formats.
  • Archival. Maintain a local copy of your diagnostic data for records retention beyond what the cloud stores.
  • Presentations. Pull specific data points into slide decks, proposals, or training materials.

If your goal is simply to check pass/fail rates or review technician activity, the dashboard (J7) is faster and does not require a download.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Log In to the Cloud Dashboard

  1. Open cloud.measurequick.com in your web browser.
  2. Sign in with your Company Administrator or Manager account.
  3. Navigate to the Projects section from the left menu.

You must have a Manager or Administrator role to access export functions. Standard technician accounts can view their own projects but cannot export company-wide data.

Step 2: Filter Data Before Exporting

Exporting without filtering gives you everything, which may be thousands of records. Apply filters first to get a targeted dataset:

  • Date range. Set a start and end date to limit the export to a specific period (e.g., last quarter, last 12 months, cooling season only).
  • Technician. Select a specific technician or leave as "All" for the full team.
  • Test type. Choose AC/Heat Pump Cooling, Heat Pump Heating, Gas Furnace/Boiler, or Quick Tests.
  • Pass/Fail status. Filter to only passing projects, only failing projects, or all.

Apply all relevant filters before starting the export. The export will include only the records that match your current filter selections.

Step 3: Export to CSV

  1. With your filters applied, locate the Export button (typically in the upper-right area of the project list).
  2. Click Export and select CSV as the format.
  3. The download will begin. Depending on the number of records, this may take a few seconds to a minute.
  4. Save the file to a known location on your computer.

The exported file is a standard CSV (comma-separated values) file that opens in any spreadsheet application.

Step 4: Understand the Export Format

The CSV export includes one row per project/test with columns for:

  • Project information: Customer name, address, project date, technician name, project status
  • Equipment details: System type, condenser make/model/serial, air handler make/model/serial, refrigerant type, tonnage, metering device
  • Measurements: Key temperature, pressure, airflow, and electrical readings
  • Pass/fail results: Each subsystem's pass or fail status (refrigerant charge, airflow, static pressure, etc.)
  • Vitals Score: The overall system health score (0-100) if applicable
  • Metadata: Test workflow phase (Test In, Test Out), timestamps, notes

Column headers in the CSV match the field names used in measureQuick. If a measurement was not captured for a given test, that cell will be empty.

Step 5: Open and Work with Exported Data

In Microsoft Excel:

  1. Open Excel and go to File > Open.
  2. Select the downloaded CSV file.
  3. Excel will parse the columns automatically. If prompted for delimiter settings, select "Comma."
  4. Save as an .xlsx file if you plan to add formulas, charts, or formatting.

In Google Sheets:

  1. Go to sheets.google.com and create a new spreadsheet.
  2. Go to File > Import, then select the CSV file.
  3. Choose "Replace current sheet" and set the separator to "Comma."

Common tasks with exported data:

  • Pivot tables to summarize pass/fail rates by technician, by month, or by test type.
  • Conditional formatting to highlight failing subsystems in red.
  • Charts showing trends over time (e.g., monthly test volume, average Vitals Score by quarter).
  • VLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH to join mQ data with your own business records (job revenue, customer retention, warranty claims).

Step 6: Know the Limitations

  • Record limits. Large exports (10,000+ records) may take longer to generate. If the export times out, apply tighter filters to reduce the record count and export in batches.
  • Photos are not included. The CSV export contains measurement data and text fields only. Photos and PDF reports must be accessed through the cloud dashboard or generated individually.
  • Real-time data. The export reflects data as of the moment you click Export. Projects synced after the export will not be included.
  • One export format. CSV is the standard export format. There is no direct Excel (.xlsx) or JSON export from the dashboard.

Tips & Common Issues

When should I export vs use the dashboard?

Use the dashboard for routine checks: how many tests did we run this week, who has failing projects, what are our pass/fail trends. Export when you need to build custom reports, combine mQ data with external data, or deliver data to a third party in a specific format.

The export file looks garbled when I open it

Some spreadsheet applications default to a different delimiter or character encoding. When opening the CSV, specify UTF-8 encoding and comma as the delimiter. In Excel, use the Data > From Text/CSV import wizard for full control over parsing settings.

I need data that is not in the export

The CSV export includes the most commonly used fields. If you need detailed measurement data beyond what the export provides (e.g., individual probe readings, source brands, or override flags), contact measureQuick support to discuss options.

Can I automate exports?

There is no scheduled or automated export from the cloud dashboard. If you need regular data feeds, discuss API access or integration options with measureQuick support.
