Choosing Your Interface: mQ Classic vs mQ+

Choosing Your Interface: mQ Classic vs mQ+

What You'll Learn

  • What the interface chooser is and when it appears
  • How mQ Classic and mQ+ differ in layout, workflow, and intended use
  • Which interface fits your work style and team structure
  • How to switch interfaces at any time through Settings
  • How a company admin can set a default interface for the entire team

What You'll Need

  • Device: iPhone (iOS 15+) or Android (Android 10+) with measureQuick installed
  • App version: measureQuick 3.6 or later
  • Account: Active measureQuick account (mQ Classic available to all; mQ+ requires Premier Services)
  • Time: 5 minutes to read; 2 minutes to make your selection

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: The Interface Chooser

The first time you open measureQuick after updating to version 3.6, the app presents an interface chooser screen. This screen asks you to select between two interfaces: mQ Classic and mQ+.

Every user sees this screen once. Your choice takes effect immediately, and the app remembers it for future sessions.

If you are not a Premier Services subscriber, you will only have access to mQ Classic. The mQ+ option will appear but will indicate that it requires a Premier Services subscription.

Tip: You are not locked in. You can change your interface at any time (see Step 5). Pick whichever feels right and try it for a few jobs before deciding.

Step 2: mQ Classic Overview

mQ Classic is the original measureQuick interface. If you have been using measureQuick before version 3.6, this is the layout you already know.

mQ Classic home screen showing the familiar card-based layout with Projects, Tools, Settings, and other navigation elements

mQ Classic home screen showing the familiar card-based layout with Projects, Tools, Settings, and other navigation elements

What stays the same in mQ Classic:

  • The card-based home screen with Setup, Active Project, Test, Quick Tests, and Utilities sections
  • Bottom navigation bar with tabs for Home, Grid, Gauges, System, and Toolbox
  • All existing measurement screens, gauge views, and trending views
  • Full data entry fields for every equipment parameter
  • Report generation with all formatting and detail options
  • Every feature and workflow from previous versions

Who mQ Classic is built for:

  • Technicians who are comfortable with the current layout and prefer not to change
  • Users who do detailed data entry on every job (manual tonnage, airflow, SEER values)
  • Office staff who review completed projects and reports
  • Anyone who wants access to every field and option on a single screen

mQ Classic is the full-featured interface. Nothing has been removed. All new 3.6 features that are not specific to the mQ+ layout (such as System View, refrigerant defaults, and persistent settings) are available in mQ Classic as well.

Step 3: mQ+ Overview

mQ+ is an entirely new interface designed around one goal: get you to value as fast as possible. It rethinks how measureQuick presents information on a smartphone screen, prioritizing the tasks a field technician performs most often.

mQ+ main screen showing the project-centric layout with progress percentage, workflow steps, and the Navigation Drawer handle at the bottom

Key differences from mQ Classic:

  • Project-centric layout. mQ+ opens directly to the project screen. If your probes are already connected and Bluetooth is enabled, the app recognizes that context and skips setup steps automatically.
  • Map-based project selection. Start a job by viewing nearby projects on a map. Each pin shows the equipment make, model, serial number, and location relative to your position (blue dot). Tap a pin to select the project.
  • Progress tracking. A percentage indicator shows how much of the workflow is complete. If your probes are connected and the system is profiled, you may see 40-50% completion before you take a single measurement. The app guides you to the next required step.
  • Navigation Drawer. A bottom-of-screen resizable panel gives quick access to the flashlight, actions (reset trends, print), camera (photos and 30-second video), mic, AI Assist, and your toolbox. Drag or tap to resize it.
  • AI Diagnostics Summary. After generating diagnostics, mQ+ displays an AI-powered summary that explains what the findings mean, what to check or do next, and how to explain the results to the homeowner.
  • Streamlined steps. Workflow steps are collapsible. A "Show All Options" toggle reveals completed steps, incomplete steps, and optional "Boost Your Score" suggestions for adding more equipment data.

Who mQ+ is built for:

  • Field technicians who want to minimize screen time and maximize wrench time
  • Teams that value a guided, step-by-step workflow
  • Companies using checklists, Quick Profiles, and AI Assist as part of their standard process
  • Anyone who wants AI-generated diagnostic summaries and homeowner explanations

What mQ+ requires:

  • Premier Services subscription
  • measureQuick 3.6 or later

Step 4: Who Should Choose Which

There is no wrong answer. Both interfaces produce the same diagnostic results, the same reports, and the same data in measureQuick Cloud. The difference is how you interact with the app on your phone.

Consideration mQ Classic mQ+
I want all fields visible at once Yes - every parameter on screen Steps are collapsed; tap to expand
I want guided step-by-step workflow Manual navigation between tabs Progress percentage guides you through
I do detailed manual data entry Full field access on every screen Streamlined; optional fields hidden by default
I want AI diagnostic summaries mQ Assist available (see I4) AI summary built into the workflow
I need to work fast with minimal taps Familiar layout, fast for experienced users Designed for speed; context-aware shortcuts
I review projects in the office Full detail for review and documentation Optimized for field use
My team is new to measureQuick Requires learning the full interface Guided workflow reduces onboarding time

For mixed teams: Some technicians prefer mQ Classic, and others prefer mQ+. That is fine. Each user can choose independently, and the data is identical regardless of interface. A tech using mQ+ and a tech using mQ Classic on the same company account will see each other's projects, reports, and equipment history.

Step 5: Switching Interfaces Later

You can change your interface at any time.

  1. Open measureQuick
  2. Go to Settings
  3. At the top of the Settings screen, tap the mQ Classic or mQ+ card to select your interface
  4. The app immediately switches to the selected layout

📷 Settings screen with mQ Classic and mQ+ cards at the top, mQ Classic currently selected with a green checkmark

Your projects, data, and toolbox configuration are unaffected by switching. Everything you have done in one interface is fully accessible in the other.

Tip: If you are evaluating mQ+ for the first time, give it at least 3-5 service calls before switching back. The guided workflow feels different from mQ Classic, and the efficiency gains become clearer after a few jobs.

Step 6: Setting a Company-Wide Default

Company administrators can set a default interface for all technicians on the account.

  1. Log in with a Manager or Owner role
  2. Go to Settings > Company Settings (or the About section in mQ+)
  3. Find the Company Interface Default option
  4. Select User Choice, mQ Classic, or mQ+
  5. Save

When set to User Choice, each technician picks their own interface. When set to mQ Classic or mQ+, new technicians see that interface pre-selected on the interface chooser. They can still override it and choose the other option if they prefer.

Tip: Setting a company default is useful for standardizing training. If your onboarding materials reference one interface, set that as the default so new hires see the same screens as the training content.

Individual technicians can always switch their own interface via Settings, regardless of the company default.

Tips & Common Issues

I updated to 3.6 but did not see the interface chooser

The chooser appears on the first launch after updating. If you dismissed it or if another user on the device already selected an interface, go to Settings and tap the mQ Classic or mQ+ card at the top to make your selection.

I chose mQ+ but I am not a Premier Services subscriber

mQ+ requires a Premier Services subscription. If you selected mQ+ without an active subscription, you will be prompted to subscribe or switch back to mQ Classic. Contact your company admin or visit measureQuick Cloud to check your subscription status.

My team uses both interfaces and reports look different

Reports generated from mQ Classic and mQ+ use the same report engine and contain the same data. The report format is determined by your report settings, not your interface choice. If reports look different between team members, check Settings > Reports to ensure everyone is using the same report template.

I switched to mQ+ and cannot find a feature I used in mQ Classic

Most features are present in both interfaces, but they may be in different locations. In mQ+, look for tools in the Navigation Drawer (bottom panel) and workflow steps in the collapsible sections. If a feature appears to be missing, toggle "Show All Options" at the bottom of the workflow to reveal hidden steps.

Can I use mQ Classic on my phone and mQ+ on my tablet?

The interface setting is per-device. If you log into measureQuick on a second device, you will see the interface chooser again and can make a different selection. Your data syncs across both devices regardless of which interface each one uses.
