Perhaps you've heard of the ACCA Quality Installation, but what does it mean and how do you obtain it? Until recently, ACCA (Air Conditioning Contractors of America) had a quality installation process that followed their Standard 5. This process involved contractors filling out hand written paper in order to obtain a certificate verifying equipment had been installed correctly.
Well, now they've evolved. ACCA has partnered with measureQuick to eliminate the paperwork portion and digitize their standard's process. In the measureQuick application, users can open ACCA specific workflows to obtain 1 of 3 potential ACCA certifications.
Verified Equipment Operation (VEO)
Verified System Operation (VSP)
Energy Star
What's the difference? The VEO is verifying an installation is running as optimally as possible using the homes current duct work. VSP follows the Standard 5 and certifies the entire system (equipment, ducts and house). Energy Star is a step beyond the VSP with slightly stricter requirements.
How to obtain a VEO
Rules and Requirements
In order to ensure data integrity, the software will only allow users to obtain an ACCA VEO certificate when the following requirements have been met.
1. Grade
2. System Review
3. Required Tools
1. Grade
Rule 1: Grade of the system must be a 95% or higher.
Very similar to the grading system you experienced in school, measureQuick provides a live grade of the HVAC system you are working on. The app will display the grade and allow for adjustments to increase the score.
2. System Review
subsystem review
Rule 2: Pass all subsystem reviews
measureQuick breaks the entire system down into 9 subsystems, and will generate an automatic pass/fail for most subsystems based on the data coming from the equipment information input fields and measurements off the tools. The user has the ability to manually override a "fail" to a "pass", but will not be able to generate a certificate. Manually overriding will NOT affect the grade of the system.
In order to obtain a certificate, the following subsystems must automatically pass.
Electrical system
Air Distribution system
Air Filtration system
Refrigerant charge
Cooling capacity
Cooling electrical efficiency
These following subsystems require a visual inspection, therefore require manual confirmation from the user.
Condensate drain system
Outdoor equipment
Indoor equipment
3. Required Tools
Rule 3: Use Bluetooth® tools to obtain measurements
Let's face it, manually entry can be easily adjusted in order to manipulate results, so we put in rules that require the use of Bluetooth tools for the following measurement fields.
Suction Line Temp
Liquid Line Temp
High Pressure
Low Pressure
Supply Air
Return Air
Outdoor Air
Return Static Pressure
Supply Static Pressure
Electrical
HERE'S SOME GOOD NEWS
measureQuick can be used with multiple tool manufacturer brands, so if you already use Bluetooth tools, odds are, we can connect to it.
Multiple required measurement fields can be captured from 1 tool. For instance..
You use an Testo 557s digital manifold. With that one tool, you can capture 4 measurements: liquid line, suction line, high pressure and low pressure.
You have a Testo manometer. Great! Manometers will dual ports can be used for Return and Supply Static Pressure
You receive a certificate that can be used to differentiate yourself from your competitors as well as validate your quality installation for energy program rebates.
Pricing per certificate
It pays to be an ACCA QA Member.
QA Contractors & ACCA members - $30 plus 20 free certs/year
QA Contractors & non members - $40 plus 20 free certs/year
ACCA Members - $40
Non-members - $50
Plus! ACCA will reimburse your account the mQ $5 project fee if: you are a QA Contractor AND you issue a certificate.
